Grilled Lamb Burgers
Grilled lamb burgers are really delicious. This recipe came about as I wanted to make gyros for a weekend bbq, but wanted to do something different. Originally I was going to serve them gyro style, but ended up actually making them into little lamb sliders instead. You can make these into meatballs and either insert them into a pita for a take on gyros, or substitute rosemary for oregano, and then make an awesome slider that you can serve on a small roll with a rosemary-lemon mayonnaise, arugula, tomatoes and cucumbers. Delicious.
The trick for these is the pork lamb combination of meats. The pork lightens them a bit. Then they have a meatball like base of eggs and bread crumbs. They are sticky when preparing, but the pay off is a delicate flavorful burger. Grill, pan fry or roast- they are great!
Recipe: Grilled Lamb Burgers
1 lb. ground lamb 1 lb. ground pork 1 store bought package fresh rosemary or oregano (approx 1 oz.) 4 cloves crushed garlic 2 tsp. Kosher salt 3 tsp. black pepper 2 eggs 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs Mix all ingredients well. For into patties. Grill over medium low heat on a gas grill with lid closed, approximately 5 minutes per side until done. Keep in mind, there is pork in them, so be sure to cook through.
