Soy Sauce Steak Marinade
A soy sauce steak marinade seems like a no-brainer, and it is. Soy sauce adds a great flavor profile to almost anything savory with its high amounts of umami flavors. But, on its own, it can be over-powering, so marinades like teriyaki, balance it out with sweetness and dilute it a bit. This got me thinking. What is a bit sweet with great flavor that might lend itself to steak, or pork or even salmon?
One look at the popularity of my
coca-cola ribs page
page gave me the answer. Yep. Coke. So, I mixed the two, with some other spices and marinated some sirloin steaks. Bingo. A nice, flavorful marinade, not overpowering, but a nice addition to bbq steaks. One warning: the soy-sauce-coke-marinade has sugar in it , so bbq your steaks or pork over medium heat so as not to burn the outside. If they get too dark, finish your meat in a hot oven.
