Tools BBQ

Tools bbq are things that I consider to be basic essentials for your grilling or meat smoking experience.

• Knives- Yes I know, this is pretty basic, but a great knife means a lot. For all around use, I prefer a Wüsthof Classic 10-Inch Cook's Knife, Henckels, or Shun. Other than that, all you need is a boning knife, a paring knife and a serrated knife. If you do a lot of brisket, and carving, Get a slicer while you’re at it.

• Tongs- Very basic, but design is essential here. Spring loaded only! These are cheap, well made and fully functional--Imusa 12 Inch Food Tong

• Cutting boards- Heavy duty is the key here, either plastic or wood. Boos boards are my favorite, and they come in all sizes.

• Wood- You can buy chunks and shavings, but if you’re serious go to www.chiggercreek.com They supply many restaurants. My preferences are oak hickory and pecan. Apple works for pork nicely, not strong enough though for big briskets or pork butts.

• Smoker thermometer- If you don’t have one you must get one. Very important to know you’re smoker’s temp.

• Meat thermometer- Makes your life easier when grilling steaks and roasts, or checking poultry I love the new digital probes. Like this one: Oregon Scientific Talking Wireless BBQ Thermometer With Meat Tenderizer

• Towels – sounds silly but these help grab hot pans, help cutting boards not slide when they’re put under them and wipe up stuff!

• Gloves- I buy doctor style disposables for kitchen prep especially with peppers and onions. Heavy duty heat proof gloves help move charcoal chimneys and pull pork. These are great- Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue SR8037 Insulated Food Gloves, Pair

• Grill Brushes- Don’t spend a ton because they wear out, but do buy a sturdy enough one so it doesn’t snap in half. This one is heavy duty one, and allows for good pressure to get the grates good and clean-Grill Daddy GD12952S Grill Daddy Pro Grill Brush

• Sauce Mops and brushes- Don’t spend a lot or go to a fancy store. The hardware store is your best bet!
