Tri Tip Marinade

Tri tip marinade is a great way to jazz up your tri tip roast or steaks, and one of my favorite tri tip recipes. There a dozens of marinades out there, and any for beef will work.

Whether the marinade is wine based, soy sauce based, or simple olive oil, rosemary and salt, you will need to marinated your roast a minimum of 24 hours for most tri tip recipes to allow the flavor to penetrate.

This tri tip marinade is very simple and really really flavorful. I developed this originally for beef fajitas, and so therefore it makes a killer recipe for skirt steak. But, used on tri tip it is excellent as well.

Once you’ve marinated it, how do you cook it?

I suppose an oven would work, but of course you are going to grill it. My preference is and has always been grilling tri tip over hardwood coals like on this guy, my current favorite especially in cobalt:

Weber 22.5-in. Performer Weber Charcoal Grills Performer 22.5 Inch Charcoal Grill - Dark Blue, Dark Blue But if you must use gas, that’s fine too. The bit of liquid smoke in the recipe helps you in this department to achieve a smoky flavor.

Ok, so for the recipe. It is very strong flavored, so for thin steaks, whether tri tip or marinated skirt steak, I only marinate for 4 hours or so. For a tri tip roast, I marinate 24-48 hours.

Tri tip recipes: Marinade

3 c. Soy Sauce

2 c. Worcestershire

½ c. Liquid Smoke

4 c. Pineapple Juice

2 oz Chopped Garlic.

Mix well. This recipe can be scaled up or down in proportion.

Once the meat is marinated, any method of cooking works well, but grilling is the preferred option..
